The research on the functionality of actions in social, economic, and business environments developed at The Unicist Research Institute, led to the discovery of the functionality of binary actions to generate results and avoid the reactions generated by actions.

Unicist binary actions are two synchronized actions that, on the one hand, open possibilities by adding value, and on the other hand, ensure the achievement of results in adaptive environments. They are two complementary actions that work together to achieve a predefined purpose.

These actions are based on the functionality of things or processes and are composed of two parts: the first action opens possibilities by adding value, while the second action ensures results by integrating the purpose and the energy conservation function.

Unicist binary actions are necessary in adaptive environments where cause-effect relationships are uncertain and feedback-dependent. They allow for a strategic approach, including maximal strategies to grow and minimum strategies to ensure results.

They are designed by considering the purpose they seek to achieve and the conditions of the environment in which they will be executed. The design process involves the following steps:

Identify the purpose: Determine the specific objective or desired outcome that the binary actions should accomplish. This purpose should be aligned with the overall strategy or direction of the organization or individual.

Define the environment: Understand the conditions, constraints, and opportunities of the environment in which the binary actions will be executed. This includes identifying the main stakeholders, their interests, and the external factors that may influence the actions.

Define the first action: Design the first action that will open possibilities and add value towards the achievement of the purpose. This action should consider the resources available and leverage them effectively to create new opportunities or possibilities.

Define the second action: Design the second action that will ensure results and integrate the purpose with the energy conservation function. This action should consider the feedback received from the environment and make the necessary adjustments to ensure the achievement of the purpose.

Synchronize the actions: Ensure that the two actions are synchronized and work together to achieve the purpose. This involves determining the sequence, timing, and coordination between the actions to maximize their effectiveness.

Monitor and adjust: Continuously monitor the progress and results of the binary actions and make the necessary adjustments based on the feedback received. This allows for adaptive management and ensures that the actions remain aligned with the changing conditions of the environment.

By following these steps, the design of unicist binary actions becomes a structured and systematic process that enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of the actions taken.

Unicist Debates: Building Collaborative Environments

Unicist debates are an approach to collaboration in fields where the nature of problems needs to be apprehended. It requires assuming the premise that all the participants of a debate are right.

This implies that the participants of a debate have sound knowledge of what is being discussed and are sure that a superior apprehension of reality can be achieved.

In plain language, this means that when two positions A and B appear to be incompatible, a superior integration of both positions has to be found.

This necessarily requires a double dialectical approach in order to integrate the apparent contradictions in their oneness. This requires integrating them with a third element which demands perceiving the double dialectics.

Dualistic dialectics hinders this approach and drives toward a conflict to find who is right. In this case, the use of action-reflection-action processes allows transforming dualistic dialectics into double dialectical approaches.

The benefit of these unicist debates is the accurate diagnoses and strategies in adaptive environments and the definition of what is possible to be achieved.

Unicist Debates

Meaningful debates happen while something is being constructed. They are not rationalistic exercises. Unicist debates are based on the conjunction “and” and not on the exclusive disjunction “or”.

There are four principles implicit:

  1. Assuming that our fellow is right
  2. Assuming that one might not have all the elements of a certain reality
  3. Accepting that the participant’s knowledge must include experiencing
  4. Accepting the oneness of a given functional reality

When those who are debating disagree, a higher level of knowledge must be achieved. At this level, the disagreeing affirmations are partially true but integrated. (See “Q” Method)

Debates happen while something is being constructed.

The depth of the knowledge of participants and their humbleness defines the limits of the possibilities of a Unicist approach to debates.

The Unicist Debates are the methodology that is used in all our collaborative projects, think tanks, and destructive testing processes. They are based on a “solution-thinking” attitude to improve the quality and accuracy of decisions.

The Paradox of the Fallacious Myths of Institutions

The unicist approach to institutions defines that the fallacious myths of institutions sustain the “spirit de corps” of their organizations. They are absolutely necessary although they hinder improvement.

The identification of the fallacious myths allows defining the possibilities to influence them.

The unicist role of the institutions in an environment defines the type of fallacious myths they need to avoid disgregation. There are basically four basic roles of an institution:

The Number 1:

These are the institutions that set the standards in their field of action.

The Number 2 – The innovator:

They are institutions that propose a new standard defying the Nr. 1

The Differentiated Participant:

They are a sort of Nr. 3. These institutions are followers of the Nr. 1.

Non Differentiated Participant:

These institutions are marginal in the market and their major problem is survival.

About Institutional Fallacious Myths

Fallacious myths of the Innovator – The myth of the value added:

Innovation doesn’t imply necessarily the generation of added value. Innovators generate naturally the fallacious myth of added value to justify their innovation.

The fallacious myths are based on the potential benefit of an innovation if the user had the same values of the innovator.

Fallacious myths of the Nr. 1 – The myths of ethics:

They generate fallacious myths of ethics to sustain their dominant position and the imposition of their standards. This ethics has a strong moral basement.

This fallacious myth is sustained by a strong feeling of impunity based on their dominating role.

Fallacious myths of the Differentiated Participant – The myth of self-sufficiency:

Differentiated participants are followers; therefore they do not invest in many of the fields the Nr. 1 invests, such as: image building, training, R&D, etc.

They need to believe that they are self-sufficient and that investments are unnecessary.

They generate the fallacious myths of self-sufficiency when the environment demands the investments they are not willing to make.

The fallacious myth of Non Differentiated Participants – The myth of justification:

These are organizations based on survivors’ ethics. They need to justify their surviving actions when they are not able to deal with the ethics of a market. Justifications define the need of actions. The fallacious myth of justification sustains the ethics of non differentiated participants’ actions.

Conclusion

Human fallacious behavior always includes individual, institutional and social fallacies. These fallacies are integrated in order to avoid that individuals face unbearable realities in a given environment.

Approaching fundamentals to deal with adaptive systems

Fundamentals define the nature of reality. The unicist technology for diagnostics approaches problems based on their nature.

Problems turn complex when results must be achieved, and require a high accuracy of the diagnoses, prognoses and action plans to solve them. Unicist technologies for diagnostics were developed to ensure results.

The unicist approach considers any specific reality, on which influence intends to be exerted, as a unified field. This is the origin of the name unicist.

Diagnosing implies describing the functionality of a reality. And this description includes the internal cause-effect relations, whether they are univocal or bi-univocal.

From that point on, a prognosis of the natural evolution of that reality has to be developed and then an action plan to influence such reality is included in the final diagnosis. Unicist diagnoses include: descriptions, prognoses and action plans.

Innovation is the basis for economic growth.  Essentially, countries, cultures, institutions, and individuals grow only in the fields where they are open to innovations.

The purpose of innovation is to overcome scarcity. That is why only people or cultures that have the will, find the way to overcome scarcity.  This is the cultural context that fosters innovation.

The driver of innovation is human creation. The word creation is used in the sense of recreation. Humans create based on the existing energy.

The maximal strategy of innovations drives towards the solution of a scarcity. Therefore innovative organizations have the perception that they add value to the environment. But this is only true if the minimum strategy is also fulfilled.

The minimum strategy implies inserting the innovations into the social capital of the environment. Social capital is defined by the strength of the bonds that integrate the members of a community.

Commercial innovations need to be only one step ahead of the habits of the environment. If they are more than one step ahead they fail, unless there is an extreme need and they are, implicitly, a “back to basics”.

In this field Procter & Gamble is a notorious benchmark.

Benchmarking Rolls-Royce is necessary for all those products or activities that are considered prestigious by the community and that need to sustain their seeking for perfection to achieve their credibility in the market.

A Rolls-Royce is an extremely prestigious car because it has extreme functionality, quality, added value and reliability.

The integration of these four extreme characteristics makes its positioning as a prestigious car possible.

The purpose of a “Rolls-Royce” is to satisfy the feeling of having achieved perfection. Perfection is considered as something that satisfies 100% the expectancy of the buyer. This means that a “Rolls-Royce” satisfies the needs of the buyer considered as an individual, as part of a group and within her/his social environment.

Every activity or product that requires perfection, in the above described sense, needs to position as a “Rolls-Royce”.  This can be frequently seen in medicine, in politics, in strategy, and in all those fields where the value added is extreme and extreme reliability is expected.

The extreme functionality mentioned above has two aspects. It has to be extremely functional as a device but also extremely functional in its operation. This implies that no one can expect a superior functionality in the market.

The need for extreme quality implies extreme quality assurance and extreme control. Thus reliability and extreme added value are sustained.

Therefore the process of Rolls-Royce building includes an extremely strict concept, its update in the field of scientific possibilities, the management of all the techniques necessary to achieve perfection and last, but not least, the necessary art to make the perfection perceivable by the community.

Rolls-Royce building and positioning is not a question of choice. It is a question of beliefs. But it needs to be said that this does not guarantee success in business.

The Unicist Fundamentals of Mozilla

A navigator is the person on board of a ship or aircraft responsible for its navigation. The navigator is not the captain, but provides the information to the captain in order to make adequate decisions. Therefore, the navigator’s primary responsibility is to be aware of the ship or aircraft’s position at all times.

A Navigator on the Internet is an object that substitutes the individual that navigates a ship or airplane to position the user in the World Wide Web.

In business there are many activities that are homologous to navigators:

-Market Research
-Strategic Positioning
-Diagnosing
-Scenario Building
-Information Technology, etc.

In order to benchmark Mozilla’s experience we would consider that it is a way to navigate the Internet providing alternatives to the “captain” in order to use the platform as a tool to develop the activity s/he has planned.

The Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is simpler. It provides basically a rigid navigation platform to ensure that individuals can access information. IE doesn’t pretend to be an adaptive platform. It pretends to be a simple access to the Internet. Thus it is the natural navigator for individuals who just use Internet as an access to information.

The more participative the design of the navigators, the more flexible they can work. The more flexible they are, the higher the level of the “persons” to deal with them.

Mozilla is an example that can only be benchmarked if it is experienced in real use, as well as its comparison with the Internet Explorer Concept.

This benchmark will help you design adaptive systems. The Unicist Standard allows developing flexible designs with quality assurance.
