Unicist Coaching: Understanding the Nature of Things

Many, many years ago a centipede, which lived in a forest, had unsolvable problems. His salary was insufficient to pay for the shoes he used. His life was empty. No cinema, no theatre, no vacations; nothing that required money to be bought.

The OwlThe centipede had been searching for solutions all over the forest. He went from stone to stone, from tree to tree, from friend to friend. No solutions were found, just desperation.

Finally he met a friend who proposed him a solution. Why don’t you visit the owl? He is the senior consultant of the forest. He is wise and counsels everybody. He is really respected in the forest.

After thinking it over for some time, he decided to go. His situation was unbearable. No cinema, no anything. Surviving was the most he could do.

The great day came and with hope and joy he visited the owl and told him his story. The owl listened carefully and respectfully. Finally after reflecting on the centipede’s problem he proposed a solution.

“I have the solution for your problem,” said the owl. “Put on a pair of wings and fly”.

“Thank you!” replied the centipede. “I have finally found my way. Now I will be able to go to the cinema and to the theatre.  I will be able to live my life again.”

After leaving the owl’s room, the centipede thought, ‘how can I do that?”

Immediately he returned to owl’s office and asked him how to use the wings and fly.

With the same formality he had used before the owl replied.

“Look, the responsibility of a consultant is to propose ideas. Implementation is the client’s responsibility.”

The centipede did not just leave the room. He fled…..

He stayed alone for more than a month. The problem was harassing him. He could not see a way out. His alternative was to commit suicide, but he could not find the courage to do so.

Some time after, while resting on a stone with his eyes looking nowhere, an ant saw his depressive look.

“What is wrong with you? Why are you sad? The day is nice, it is spring; what is your problem?” the ant asked.

The centipede felt the need to tell him his story. The ant listened carefully and suggested him to talk with the eagle (*), the other counselor in the forest.

“No way! I do not want to talk with anybody again.” said the centipede.

“You have no choice”, replied the ant. “And please consider that it has been very helpful in my case.”

The EagleFinally he decided to go. He was really scared.

The eagle had a penetrating sight that appeared extremely aggressive. The centipede began to tell him his sad history, but he could not finish. The eagle interrupted him.

“I have the solution for your problem”, said the eagle.

“I have seen this movie before” thought the centipede.

“Just use half of the shoes. Use one foot with a shoe and leave the next barefooted. Thus you will reduce the cost of the shoes you have to buy. After having this done for a month, please come to visit me again.”

He left the room limping. Toc, non-toc, toc, non-toc.

After some time he rebelled. He left the shoes aside.

“No more!!!” He said, and began walking barefooted.

He had found his way. He didn’t use shoes anymore.

That is why, to this day, centipedes do not use shoes.

He never visited the eagle again. What for? His life was on its way. From time to time, when the eagle and the centipede met in the forest, they smiled at each other.

(*) Eagles and owls are deadly enemies in nature.

Which are the fundamentals of the eagle’s proposal?
Why are eagles and owls deadly enemies in nature?

“Riddles” have many solutions. In the Far East, the “riddles” are used to develop internal freedom and responsibility.

Introducing the Ethic of Foundations

Knowing what one is talking about is not a matter of professionalism. It is a matter of good education. Click on the image to access.

Every cultural change is firm when it is integrated into the habits of the community. A change has to be a custom in a community before becoming a habit. But customs must be supported by ethics. It all begins with a new ethic, then it develops into a custom and finally it becomes a habit. Ethic, as a concept, is a functional rule based on moral values and an ideology.

The “Ethic of Foundations” establishes the basic rules to manage reliable knowledge in order to generate value. It transforms epistemology into rules for action.

The epistemology is based on the development of logical foundations and empirical justifications to sustain human knowledge. This epistemology is a pragmatic, structural and functionalist approach to knowledge that replaced knowledge falsification processes by destructive testing processes.

The paradigm shift in science, that integrates the “know-how” and the “know-why”, requires having the fundamentals of facts and not only justifying a knowledge using empirical confirmation. That is why, almost 30 years ago, the Ethic of Foundations was introduced in The Unicist Research Institute to establish a framework for the activities with the context. It was the basic step for the development of the Unicist Epistemology.

The ethic of foundations represents a moral code related to the respect for others and their authority. Respect for others is necessary in order to discuss our own arguments. Respect for others’ authority is the only way to accept their fundamentals as valid.

Benefits of the use of fundamentals:

Supporting of synergistic leadership

Synergistic leadership is possible when it is based on the fundamentals of the participants. The democratic aspects of organizations are provided by the consideration of the fundamentals of all the members of a working group.

Balancing the small with the big, the weak with the strong

The fundamentals of an argument are worth their own weight, regardless of who is arguing. The “ethic of foundations” requires that arguments are worth their own value without considering the subjective qualities of the one who is arguing. Therefore fundamentals have no rank because they are only functional knowledge.

Promotion of the value of work as a source of richness and personal fulfillment

As a concept, work is an activity to produce an added value for others and a benefit for the one who generated such added value. Synergy is the basis of working in groups, and there is actual added value whenever the operating knowledge is valid. Fundaments are the basis of valid knowledge

Promotion of science and technology

By definition science and technology requires knowing the fundamentals. The ethic of foundations is the basic driving force for technological development.

Promotion of justice as equality of opportunities

It has to be considered that fundamentals are worth their own weight, and allow generating value while the personal value of an individual is measured by the value added. The ethic of foundations sustains the equality of opportunities.

It is the necessary basis for synergy

Synergy means to be capable of doing something by oneself, and be a member of a group in search of a higher added value to be achieved in a more effective way. The integration to a group requires sharing the fundamentals of actions.

It allows leveling upwards

The lack of foundations naturally leads to an autocratic leadership with a manipulative attitude, while the existence of foundations naturally leads to a synergistic leadership.

Autocracy and manipulation are based on fallacious fundamentals. In this sense, foundations destroy autocracy and manipulation. Foundation is an antidote to fraud, and drives the participants of a working group to multiply their capacity of generating added-value.

The Essential Differentiation of the Unicist Approach

The emulation of nature is the concept that underlies all our actions because it allows simplifying and accelerating value adding actions. As you know nature, and all type of complex systems, are organized by objects.

What makes the difference?

The emulation of nature is the paradigm shift that we introduced in sciences to make complex adaptive systems become reasonable, understandable and predictable. This was possible by integrating the empirical “know how” with the functional “know why”.

This approach opened new solutions that were not available before.

In adaptive environments people need to know why things work in order to assume responsibilities. Without know why something happens, people cannot assume responsibilities for results.

The Unicist Paradigm Shift and Schism in Sciences

This simplified the business world and allowed organizing by objects and roles which drove the organization of processes to a superior level of productivity and quality.

Our goal is to drive the world to a superior level of value generation, which implies being sustained by value-adding ethics while a democratic and ecumenical environment is being fostered. If you take a look at our philanthropic arm you can see how we sustain the community. http://www.goodwillnetwork.net/

We have only one unbearable flaw:
We preach by example 🙂

You are Welcome!!!

Unicist Theory: a Paradigm Shift in Sciences

The emulation of nature requires having an adaptive behavior in the environment. Adapting requires:  1) exerting influence in the environment; 2) managing the influence of the environment. It requires using the conjunction “and” without using the disjunction “or”.

The paradigm shift in sciences made the complex adaptive systems become reasonable, understandable and predictable. This paradigm shift allowed defining what is possible to be achieved and not only approaching reality with a probabilistic approach.

The shift in sciences is based on a pragmatic, structural and functionalist approach that subordinates the preexisting empirical approaches. It integrates the observable facts with the “nature of things”.

The History of the Paradigm Shift in Sciences

The paradigm shift, based on the emulation of nature, was developed to solve the need of having reliable knowledge to deal with complex adaptive systems. It was provoked by the fallacy of considering empirically-justified knowledge as reliable knowledge.

It became a paradigm shift in 2015, when the Unicist Epistemology was published, after having been used, in its final version, for more than 15 years.

A) The first stage of collective knowledge was covered by religions, that provided the “WHAT” was acceptable as necessary knowledge. In the times when the knowledge was based on religious beliefs, the emulation of nature was a heresy.

B) The second step was provided by the development of empirical sciences that provided the “KNOW HOW” to deal with the environment. In the era of empirical sciences, the emulation of nature was a utopia.

C) The last step was the inclusion of the “KNOW WHY”, which required the comprehension of the nature of things and was provided by complexity sciences. The emulation of nature became possible in the era where complexity became manageable by emulating the logic that underlies nature. This is the unicist paradigm shift in sciences.

History of the Evolution of Operational Knowledge

The paradigm shift was triggered by the need to understand complex adaptive systems. The shift implies having changed the empirical approach to sciences replacing it by a pragmatic, structuralist and functionalist approach to deal with complex environments that integrates, at an operational level, the preexisting empiricism.

This is an superior level in sciences that integrates complexity sciences with systemic sciences using the double-dialectical logic to emulate the ontogenetic intelligence of nature and using objects to emulate the organization of nature.

Epistemology is the Core of the shift in Sciences

Unicist EpistemologyThe unicist approach to Epistemology is based on the development of logical foundations and empirical justifications to sustain human knowledge. This epistemology is a pragmatic, structural and functionalist approach that allows building reliable knowledge that replaced the processes of the falsification of knowledge by destructive testing processes.

It is based on the Unicist Theory which is a paradigm shift of the scientific approach to complex adaptive systems. This theory provides an approach to complexity based on the use of the unicist logic that emulates the intelligence that underlies nature. It integrated complexity sciences with systemic sciences in a unified field.

The paradigm shift is based on the integration of the “know-how” that underlies the empirical sciences with the “know-why” introduced by the Unicist Theory.  The “know why” is needed to deal with the root-causes of complex adaptive environments.

It defines that reliable knowledge implies knowing the concepts that underlie facts, which confirm the “know-why”, and the justifications that confirm the “know-how” of the facts.

The integration of the unicist approach to complexity with the empirical sciences requires changing the Theory-Practice learning approach to an Action-Reflection-Action approach that allows apprehending the concepts that underlie facts and transforms them into value adding actions.

This approach integrates the “know why” required to understand complexity with the “know how” needed to generate value.

Functionality of Logical Thinking to deal with Sciences

Conclusion:

The paradigm shift, based on the emulation of nature, was developed to solve the need of having reliable knowledge to deal with complex adaptive systems. It was provoked by the fallacy of considering empirically-justified knowledge as reliable knowledge.

It became a paradigm shift in 2015, when the Unicist Epistemology was published, after having been used, in its final version, for more than 15 years.

Wisdom vs. Erudition: Wisdom is a pathway with many masters

There is an extreme confrontation of erudition with wisdom (but not vice versa). This was discovered in the research developed during more than 10 years in the field of Talent Development. The research was led by Peter Belohlavek.

Wisdom can be defined as the capacity of an individual to integrate idealism and realism with value adding actions. The characteristic of individuals who achieved wisdom is that they had multiple masters that had an authoritative role in their lives. These roles are still in force and the masters are still admired.

The Unicist Ontology of WisdomAdmiration and functional envy are the concepts that allow achieving wisdom. Individuals who admire others’ achievements and deeds have the opportunity to achieve wisdom, but only if they pursue the objective of adding value in an environment. The functional envy drives individuals to achieve goals.

Individuals with conflictive relations with authority can never achieve wisdom. They might be extremely erudite, extremely efficient workers but they will never be able to integrate idealism and realism with a value-adding attitude in their environment.

The apparent paradox of wisdom is the need of multiple masters. It is said that disciples are those learners who overcome their teachers. But wisdom, defined as the space where an individual has been able to integrate idealism and realism with value adding actions, cannot be overcome. What is the difference between Wisdom and Erudition?

Wisdom

Wisdom is a state that requires focusing on specific aspects of reality using questions to apprehend their nature and having the necessary knowledge of the environment in order to generate value.

Wisdom cannot be overcome because the nature of some aspect of reality has been understood and can be influenced.

But it has to be considered that wise people do not compete with others to have a place in the world. They earned their place in the world. That is why they remain masters in the field in which they are wise.

Erudition

The Unicist Ontology of EruditionErudition is an addiction that drives people to build a parallel hypothetical reality where they consider themselves wise. It is a frequent addiction of rationally gifted individuals.

They are driven by envy which makes them accumulate data they use to judge the originators of the data while they try to demonstrate to others that they are wise. This allows them confronting with others in their hypothetical reality and feel that their judgments make them wise.

They manipulate in order to ensure that their hypothetical reality prevails over actual facts.

Conclusions

Competing with an authority in a field where she/he is wise is a demonstration that the need to gain supersedes the need to add value. Multiple masters make wisdom possible.

Erudition is not analogous to wisdom; it is fallacious version of wisdom. Wisdom implies action while erudition does not.

Achieving wisdom cannot be a goal for a wise person; wisdom is the consequence of the action of an individual but does not cause it. It is unwise to try to achieve wisdom.

That is why wisdom is a pathway with multiple masters. Masters are ordinary or extraordinary people who have achieved wisdom in some field. Look for them while you continue adding value.

To achieve wisdom you need to abandon your modesty and expand your humbleness.  Wise people do not need to be right, they just have to be functional.

The Emulation of Nature: The Paradigm Shift in Sciences

The emulation of nature requires integrating the KNOW HOW and the KNOW WHY of any action. The “know why” allows defining what is possible to be done and the know how allows doing it. This implies integrating conceptual knowledge with technical  knowledge that allows making an extreme simplification of complex processes and ensuring the results. The emulation of nature is based on the discovery of the ontogenetic intelligence of nature that regulates the evolution of living beings and natural entities.

Logical Thinking to deal with Sciences

The emulation of nature in the business world is based on the integration of the KNOW WHY and the KNOW HOW of business processes.

This ontogenetic intelligence underlies the actions of human beings, which are driven by the concepts that individuals have. The concepts that guide human actions, which are homologous to the ontogenetic intelligence of nature, allow understanding the evolution of things and adapting in an environment.

The emulation of nature requires having an adaptive behavior in the environment. Adapting requires: 1) exerting influence in the environment; 2) managing the influence of the environment. It requires using the conjunction “and” without using the disjunction “or”.

This paradigm shift in sciences made the complex adaptive systems become reasonable, understandable and predictable. Such paradigm shift allowed defining what is possible to be achieved and not only approaching reality with a probabilistic approach.

Discovering the wise aspects of one’s behavior

You are having the unique opportunity of witnessing the most significant paradigm shift in science that was made in the last century, while you have the opportunity of profiting from it. This shift is based on the discovery of the ontogenetic intelligence of nature that regulates the evolution of living beings.

As adaptive systems have open boundaries you need to experience them in order to understand them. External observations are meaningless fantasies.

The personal experience needed to apprehend the paradigm shift:

Human Adaptive behavior requires influencing the environment and manage the influence of the environment.

The Ontogenetic Intelligence of NatureThe decisions of mature people naturally have a purpose, a maximal strategy in order to influence the environment to generate growth and a minimum strategy to ensure survival.

This behavior is the natural behavior of wise people who always have a maximal strategy and a minimum strategy to achieve a purpose. The knowledge of both strategies allows people to have the concepts of what needs to be done. Concepts are the drivers of human actions. Wisdom implies having conceptual knowledge in order to generate value for others.

This wisdom is possible because it has its origin in the intelligence that underlies nature. This intelligence also has a maximal strategy to expand the boundaries and has a minimum strategy to survive. Mature people naturally tend to emulate this intelligence of nature without even knowing that it exists.

That is why you need to get in touch with the field in which you achieved wisdom in order to discover the way you already emulated the organization of nature by assuming the responsibility for results using a maximal strategy and a minimum strategy to achieve them.

You have to consider that 3 to 5 year-old children approach reality using concepts. This is, of course, an intuitive approach. Small children still have a “direct” connection with nature. They do not have to make a conscious effort to emulate the ontogenetic intelligence of nature. They just do it. That is why children are so adaptive.

“It is a pity that Albert Einstein died being a child.”

Every person that exceeded adolescence has some place where she/he is wise. This means that she/he has a strategic approach to some aspect of reality.

Please take your time. Discovering the wise aspects of one’s behavior takes time.
